-SHp test is a reagent kit to measure thiol groups in blood samples.

Thiols are a major component of the body’s antioxidant which works against free radicals. Thiols can inactivate both alkoxyl and peroxyl radicals, and counteract the growth of peroxidation process. This test is particularly useful for identifying deficiency of thiol antioxidants (lipoic acid, glutathione, cysteine), and/or monitoring the efficacy of formulation of active components containing SH groups (e.g. N-acetylcysteine, whey proteins, lipoic acid, etc.).
How does it work?
In the -SHp test, the thiol forms a colored complex when it reacts with a specific acid (DTNB), and the quantified amount is measured optically providing a numerical result.
Mix the sample and buffer solution (R1 reagent) to allow the thiol group in the sample reacts with 5,5′-dithiobis-2-nitrobenzoic acid · DTNB (R2 reagent), which subsequently presents in color, and quantify the absorbance.
Sample and storage
The sample should be serum / heparin plasma (*EDTA and citrate samples are not viable). Prepare fresh samples for ideal results.
